Frequently asked questions

Permits, pricing, timelines and the questions we hear most on site visits.

Do you pull ESA permits?

Yes. Every job that requires notification is filed with the Electrical Safety Authority before work starts, and you receive the ESA Certificate of Acceptance once it passes inspection. If a contractor offers to skip the permit to save you money, that's the cue to find another contractor.

Do you work on both homes and commercial buildings?

Yes — we run residential and commercial work with the same standard. Homes: panel upgrades, EV chargers, pot lights, rewiring, renovations. Business: tenant fit-outs, LED retrofits, emergency lighting and planned maintenance.

How fast can you get to me?

Quotes are usually booked within the week. If something is unsafe — burning smell, a hot panel, sparking — switch off the affected breaker (or the main) and call; we'll tell you honestly whether it needs us today.

Is the quote really free?

Yes. A site visit and a written, itemized quote cost nothing. The price on the quote is the price you pay unless you change the scope.

Which areas do you cover?

Toronto and the GTA — including Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Brampton and Oakville. Commercial projects outside the GTA are quoted case by case.

How long does a 200 amp upgrade take?

Usually one day on site, with power off for roughly four to eight hours. Booking the utility disconnect typically takes one to three weeks, so plan ahead if you're timing it with an EV delivery or a renovation.

Do I need a permit for a panel upgrade in Ontario?

Yes. A service or panel change needs an ESA notification and inspection, and your utility won't reconnect a new service without ESA's connection authorization. We file and book everything.

How much does it cost to install an EV charger in Toronto?

Most straightforward home installs land between $1,100 and $1,700 plus the charger. Long cable runs, detached garages or the need for load management push it higher. We quote it fixed after seeing the panel.

Do I need a 200 amp service for an EV charger?

Not necessarily. Many 100 A homes can run a charger at a reduced setting or with an energy management system. Homes that are also adding a heat pump or electric range usually benefit from the upgrade.

Can I get home insurance with knob and tube in Ontario?

Many insurers will not issue or renew a policy on a home with active knob and tube, and others add a surcharge or set a deadline for replacement. After we rewire, you receive the ESA Certificate of Acceptance and a completion letter to send them.

How long does knob and tube replacement take?

A typical Toronto semi takes one to two weeks; larger detached homes two to three. You can usually stay in the house — we restore power to occupied rooms at the end of each day.

How much do pot lights cost in Toronto?

In a finished ceiling, typically $150–$250 per light installed, depending on access, ceiling type and fixture choice. Larger projects bring the per-light cost down.

Do pot lights damage the ceiling?

Very little. Slim LED fixtures need only a small round cut-out, and in most ceilings we fish wire between lights without opening anything else. Where we need an access hole, we leave it patch-ready.
