What's involved
- A dedicated 240 V circuit sized to the tub — commonly 40–60 A for full-size tubs
- A GFCI-protected disconnect located within sight of the tub, at the clearance the code requires
- A cable or conduit route from the panel, underground or along the house
- Bonding of metal parts as required
- An ESA permit and inspection
Plug-and-play tubs
Some smaller tubs plug into a 120 V receptacle. They still need GFCI protection and a properly rated, dedicated outlet — not an extension cord.
Typical costs
In the GTA, wiring a full-size tub typically costs $1,200 – $2,500 depending on distance from the panel and whether the cable goes underground. If the panel is full or the service is small, add a load solution or upgrade.
Will my panel handle it?
A hot tub is a large continuous load. Add it on our load meter to see where you stand, then book a site visit.
Quick questions
How far from the tub must the disconnect be?
Within sight of the tub and at the clearance distance the code sets — we lay it out on site.
Can I run the cable myself and have you connect it?
We need to stand behind the whole installation for the permit, so we install the circuit end to end.
Does a hot tub need a permit?
Yes — a new 240 V circuit and disconnect need an ESA permit and inspection.
